Chiropractic, Sports Injuries and Performance

Did you know that 32 NFL teams now have a Doctor of Chiropractic on staff?

Over the years, athletes have seen incredible results with chiropractic care and the NFL took notice.  What many athletes know about chiropractic is that it’s not just for healing injuries.  It’s for preventing them and for boosting performance.

In this post, I’ll talk about chiropractic, sports injuries and performance and how it’s making the active life even better for all kinds of athletes.

Reduced bench time

Adding chiropractic care to a mindful program of injury rehabilitation and prevention has been proven to reduce strain injuries.  This was revealed in a study published by BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders.

The study examined a group of athletes from an Australian football team using a resident chiropractor.  It further found that lower back pain and knee injuries resulted in reduced bench time.

A bonus was that all athletes in the study reported enhanced overall health and well-being.

Spine health critical to performance

Most of us don’t really think about how important the health of our spines is to how we function and perform.

Misalignment (also called subluxation) in the spine happens as fallout from injury and trauma.  Only chiropractors are trained to address spinal misalignment.

Dysfunction due to misalignment prevents the central nervous system from operating as it should, implicating the spinal cord, sensory organs, nerve cells and brain.  This is huge, as the nervous system is the message center of the body.

When chiropractic adjustment is applied, misalignment is addressed and the body returns to a balanced state, reducing pain as well as the potential for injury.

Chiropractic for sporty kids

Just as we don’t tend to think of the spine’s central role in physical performance, chiropractic isn’t widely associated with children’s healthcare.

But when your kid’s involved in sports, chiropractic can support healthy physical development and injury prevention.

The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) reports that over 2.6 million children under the age of 19 are treated annually for sports injuries, with musculoskeletal injury being the most common.

Children who are active in competitive sports of any kind, from intense contact sport to swimming and gymnastics, can greatly benefit from regular chiropractic care.  Their bodies are still growing and when they’re given the benefit of chiropractic, they’re far less likely to develop long term physical problems as the result of intense sporting activity.
