What Should You Choose to Treat Back Pain?

Back pain is the most common ailment that causes people to miss work days. Millions of work hours each year are lost through back issues and pain. The most common form of treatment people think of is to try pain killers to get relief. This is fine as a temporary measure, but it doesn’t actually treat the problem, only the symptoms. So what should you do to find proper relief from back pain?

Well, a study published in 2015 can help answer this question. The study looked at 719 patients all of which were experiencing back pain. Of these patients, 403 originally consulted with their medical doctor with the remainder consulting with a chiropractor.

The results of this study found that the patients who sought chiropractic help were not only the most satisfied, but experienced a greater reduction in back pain as a result. Moreover, the average cost to these patients was around $300 less than that of those who used a medical doctor.

From this study alone, the results speak for themselves.

Another study conducted in 2019 had researchers reviewing records from over 200 thousand patients looked at the effects of patients utilizing opioids as a means of pain control. The results showed some 22% of patients did receive a short term opioid for relief, but those consulting a chiropractor were far less likely to resort to opioids. This shows that a chiropractor again should be the first point of call as it lessens dependence on opioids, which of course is another issue altogether.

There have been countless other studies all showing similar results that chiropractic care should be the first place to consider for dealing with back pain. In fact the state of Virginia recently mandated hands on physical therapy or chiropractic care to be used before other forms of therapy and all insurance companies must cover such treatments.
