Of all the prescriptions in the world, there is one which has the potential to reduce severity and even prevent many diseases. These include  hypertension, heart disease, stroke, obesity, osteoporosis, certain cancers, depression, and dementia. With this prescription, there are very low risks for side effects too. This prescription is actually exercise!

Adults who exercise have a lessened risk for  poor mental health, better balance for joint mobility, and better cardiovascular and metabolic health. Exercise brings nutrients to cartilaginous tissues. All of these keep the joints healthy and reduce symptoms in arthritis patients. Partaking in daily exercise means that adults can carry out daily tasks and help seniors stay more independent. 

Even young adults can benefit from exercise. It improves the ability to manage stress and work better in schools and the workplace. Studies have proven that children who are active perform better academically, and teens who implement exercise into their lives will be more likely to lead healthy lifestyles. 

The CDC states that only half of adults meet the federal guidelines of exercise. This is considered 150 minutes of moderate intensity or 75 minutes of vigorous intensity physical activity per week. One in two adults live with chronic disease, and half of this group has two or more diseases.  1 in 10 premature deaths, 1 in 8 cases of breast cancer and colorectal cancer, 1 in 12 cases of diabetes, and 1 in 15 cases of heart disease could be avoided by meeting these guidelines.
