Pain is most commonly associated with muscle, tendon, or ligament injuries. Did you know that irritated nerves could actually be the primary source of your pain? There’s a chance you did not know this information, but luckily today, we will be talking all about it. Because of irritated nerves, tensile stretch or nerve compression could occur. This makes the condition more difficult to treat. Let’s take a dive in to learn more about radicular pain.

Neurodynamic testing is a method which could help test and then further manage your radicular pain. Unfortunately, neurodynamic testing is not very specific or sensitive. This means that using multiple tension tests will be important in diagnosing or ruling out cervical radiculopathy.

We will be talking about how these tests serve in the big picture of radiculopathy.

Evaluation:

In order to be evaluated for radicular pain, you must be tested. That is always your first step.

Management:

Nerve flossing (done in office) could help resolve other radicular pain symptoms. When a chiropractor perofrms the flossing, one end of the nerve will receive tension while then releasing that tension through the other end. Adhesions could also be released from nerve flossing.

Clinical Audit Process (CAP):

The cap measures how a condition changes from the use of treatment. Chiropractors most commonly use range of motion as their primary cap, but for radiculopathies, nerve tension tests should be considered as the cap. With the correct intervention, improvements in pain should occur. A nerve tension test will be performed before and after the treatment to furthur measure these results.
