Some Fun Springfield Chiropractic Facts

One of the key services we provide in our Springfield chiropractic clinic is chiropractic care. In this article, we’re going to look at some fun chiropractic facts that will help you to think about how you get treated for your injuries. Chiropractic care has been around for over 100 years, founded by Daniel David Palmer who was dubbed the Father of Chiropractic. Yet even as far back as Hippocrates, who said “Look well to the spine for the cause of disease”, there has always been a conscious feeling that the bones and spine do indeed hold some secrets to our wellbeing.

What does chiropractic mean? The term comes from two Greek words, cheir which means hand and praktos meaning done. Effectively the term chiropractor means done with hands.

Chiropractic care is one of the fastest growing healthcare industries in medicine. Today it sits in third place behind regular medical doctors and dentists as the number of people who are in the profession. That’s a decent amount.

Chiropractic care could take so much burden off of Medicare. The Journal of the American Board of Family Medicine claims that if people went to chiropractic care instead of their regular doctor, Medicare could save some $83.5 million each year.

But chiropractic is certainly growing and being more and more popular. 27 million Americans are treated every year and over a million adjustments are performed every day. That’s a cracking stat right there!

Despite these huge increases in numbers, it’s still not quite there in the forefront of people’s minds. For example only 4 out of 10 people use a chiro for back pain, suggests Chiodo, A. E. et al. Yet 90% of those who do have chiropractic treatment experience pain relief within 4 weeks of treatment.

Some people are also nervous about it, yet the Safety of chiropractic manipulation of the cervical spine: a prospective national survey (a major study in 2007) states that “the side effects of chiropractic treatment found that the risk of a serious adverse injury or injuries immediately or up to 7 days after treatment, was low to very low.” Compare that to the opioid crisis we see right now and the side effects of that. Chiropractic is safer.

So not only is it safer, but in generally outperforms other forms of medication for treating back pain with little to no side affects at all. Really, what’s not to like about that?
