Shoulder Pain and How we can Address it in Springfield

Thoracic Outlet Syndrome is a fairly rare condition, but it does crop up from time to time in our practice in Springfield. The three components of it, and how exactly to treat it are as follows.

The first type of tos is called tyrael. Tyrael tos is a non radicular symptom. In simpler terms, the pain goes down the entire arm. Because of pain in the whole arm, a patient experiences the five p’s: pain, pallor, paresthesia, paralysis, and pulse assist. This is very important to know because this type does not affect one specific muscle or ligament; it just runs down the entire arm.

We also deal with a type where blood is not able to get out of the arm. This in turn results in discoloration on the skin, for obvious reasons of blood flow being cut off. This will be more of a constant symptom meaning deep aches and swelling. This type is not associated with a specific movement, it’s just there.

The final type  is neurological tos. Pain is worse when you do these activities: doing your hair, picking your arm up, or carrying a child in your arms. They aggravate all of these symptoms, and can sometimes make things worse! This third type is actually associated with movement. It’s important that this difference is made, because as you can see, some are movement based and some are not. We need to make sure we are giving you the correct treatment.

When we have these conditions, it is best to do nerve flossing, stretching (depending on where the compression is coming from), and we can take a look at tests to make sure that the right treatment is going with the right test.

Some more information you may want to know is that if symptoms have been there for a long time because of poor posture or activity through their job or sports, motor weakness may become and issue for you.

If you experience any of these symptoms, make sure to visit us soon, so that we can give you exercises and proper treatment.
